Team from BCTC Wins Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Second Annual Diesel Competition

Aidan Nunan and Chad Rothfelder, both seniors from Berks Career & Technology Center (BCTC) / Boyertown Area High School won the team competition at Pennsylvania College of Technology’s second annual diesel competition on December 9-10, 2022, winning $5,000.00 in training funds for BCTC, courtesy of Cleveland Brothers Equipment Co. Inc.

The contest involved several challenges including basic care of a diesel engine, hydraulics, trouble shooting, and data analysis from the computer systems of a diesel vehicle.  “Some of the challenges were really tough,” stated Nunan, “but after training at BCTC for the last 2 and a half years, the solutions became common sense.”  Nunan finished third in the individual competition and won a $5,000 scholarship to Penn College of Technology. At the 2021 competition, he won a $7,500 scholarship for finishing second.

Nunan will be attending Penn College of Technology’s Diesel Power Generation program in the fall of 2023, with a concentration on diesel generators.  Rothfelder plans on entering the work force after graduation in June 2023 with a goal of working in a diesel performance shop, focusing on drag racing.
