The central activity of drafting and design technicians is to help convert an idea in a designer’s mind to precise working specifications from which a product can be made. Drafting design technicians assist engineers and architects in the design and drafting of electrical circuits, machine structures, weldments and architectural plans. Graduates of this program will be well prepared to enter the workforce as draftspersons in the mechanical, architectural, or civil fields. Students will learn how to prepare engineering plans, layouts, detailed drawings, create mass and volume studies. They will also work on many interesting in-class projects that will challenge their abilities and capture their imagination.
Drafting design technicians are specialists who use many methods of communication. The instruction during this program will focus on developing the following skills: CAD, architectural, mechanical, and civil drafting.
Students learn the basics of CAD while learning the fundamentals of drafting on a computer. The curriculum includes the use of a state- of-the-art 3D printer to print student project models. Each student develops a professional portfolio of work completed during the course. This program provides the skills and foundation for a successful career in the drafting field.
