Are You Future Ready?

The Future Ready program is a yearlong, half day or evening program designed for high school seniors at Berks Career and Technology Center.  There are 3 Future Ready options a student can choose:

  1. Specialized Career Training leading to supervised work experience*.  This choice is ideal for students who would like basic training in a BCTC program and work experience in the 4th marking period.  On-line OSHA training will begin over the summer months with in-person training at BCTC starting on the first day of the student’s senior year.  BCTC Programs available for Specialized Career Training are:
    1. Automotive Collision Repair Technology
    2. Cabinetry & Wood Technology
    3. Culinary Arts
    4. Horticulture
    5. Masonry
    6. Painting & Decorating
    7. Protective Services – Homeland Security (Work experience is not available as students would be training and testing for the Emergency Medical Technician certification for entire year)
    8. Recreational & Power Equipment Technology
    9. Video & Media Content Production
    10. Welding Technology

*Supervised work experience is contingent on student’s grades, Instructor recommendations, attendance, and task completion.
High School Juniors should apply by May 31st. (First round applications are due by December 15th).

2. Start BCTC as a Level 1 student. This option is available to all BCTC programs.  This is a great opportunity for high school seniors to gain knowledge and skills in a program before attending college or a military program.  High school seniors have the option to complete the program as a daytime adult student through BCTC Continuing Education after high school graduation (the Continuing Education program would require tuition, but financial aid may be available).  The program begins on the first day of the student’s senior year.

High School Juniors should apply by May 31st. (First round applications are due by December 15th).

3. Evening classes through BCTC’s Continuing Education program.  Programs run September – May, 2 days per week, 6pm-9pm.  Classes would be entirely self-pay and age restrictions may apply. Evening programs include: Welding, Trade Preparation in Electrical Occupations, Plumbing, Carpentry, and HVAC/Refrigeration.
