The Health Occupations program is a three-year course intended to develop necessary skills knowledge and attitudes for safe, competent performance as an entry-level worker in the healthcare field, such as a nurse’s aide or a home health aide. Classroom and laboratory instruction are combined with field trips and clinical experiences to expose students to a variety of health career choices. The core curriculum material is based on the requirements of the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program. Students in this program are prepared to take the test for the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Registry.The core curriculum includes an introduction to health care, infection control, safety and emergency procedures, ethical and legal responsibilities, nutrition, normal body functions and common diseases, patient care, human growth and development, rehabilitation and office procedures.
All students are encouraged to maintain eligibility to participate in the Nurse Aide Training Program. Eligibility requirements are based on academic grades, attendance and discipline record while enrolled at BCTC.
